Abstract | Williams and Rhodes (2016 Williams, D. M., & Rhodes, R. E. (2016). The confounded self-efficacy construct: Conceptual analysis and recommendations for future research. Health Psychology Review. doi:10.1080/17437199.2014.941998 [Taylor & Francis Online], , [Google Scholar] ) have provided a thoughtful conceptual analysis of the self-efficacy construct. This makes a valuable contribution to the debate about the meaning of constructs in the context of health behaviour change. They argue that self-efficacy is a confounded construct because ratings of self-efficacy reflect motivation rather than perceived capability. We have a slightly different perspective which we will briefly convey in this commentary. |
