Abstract

The situation of Norfolk Island, as a territory of the Commonwealth of Australia, is one of the historical anomalies in governance, which has persisted since 1914. Many of the issues raised in the early years after Federation have a striking immediacy and relevance. Even now they try to maintain their socio-political identity in the Pacific.
