Abstract | The authors reflect on the conviction of Gordon Wood for murder wherein it highlights the use of mathematics in the public domain. They state that Wood was convicted in 2008 of the murder of his girlfriend, model Caroline Byrne, in 1995 at the suicide spot, The Gap in Watson's Bay, Sydney. The authors note that the case presents interesting mathematical modelling possibilities for students in the senior secondary school who are familiar with the kinematics of projectile motion. |
