Abstract

This paper explores the concept of Catholic schools as communities of meaning which nurture the spirituality of young people today. It focuses on the contributions made by schools to their communities as perceived by a range of primary and secondary students. In addition, there is some discussion of the challenges that schools face in a contemporary media-charged climate that frequently displays a less-than-friendly attitude towards Christianity. Finally, as an awareness-raising exercise, it will attempt to identify some relevant issues which have significance for the Catholic community as it journeys into this century.
