Abstract

What do we mean when, in the Creed said during the celebration of the Eucharist each Sunday, we affirm that we believe in the 'Communion of Saints'? Is this simply a relic, a hangover from an earlier time? Does this ancient tradition have any meaning at all for the twenty-first century? I will suggest that it is a doctrine we need, one which challenges our individualistic culture, and which offers us a truly beautiful vision of a communal way of following Jesus on the pilgrimage that is Christian life.
