Abstract | What do we mean when, in the Creed said during the celebration of the Eucharist each Sunday, we affirm that we believe in the 'Communion of Saints'? Is this simply a relic, a hangover from an earlier time? Does this ancient tradition have any meaning at all for the twenty-first century? I will suggest that it is a doctrine we need, one which challenges our individualistic culture, and which offers us a truly beautiful vision of a communal way of following Jesus on the pilgrimage that is Christian life. |
