Abstract | For almost twenty years many senior secondary schools throughout Australia have taught religion studies to students. One of the goals listed in state syllabi is to increase religious literacy. Few of the curriculum materials available or the syllabus documents provide good examples of religious literacy or how to approach the teaching of world religions using critical religious literacy. This paper explores concepts of literacy and in particular examines how approaches to teaching religion studies in school would be enhanced by a critical religious literacy approach. |
