Abstract | T. S. Eliot, in his poem "Burnt Norton," describes that small moment within time but beyond time where, if we permit it, our minds and hearts can be lifted beyond the everyday, the ordinary, to a different place; transcending time momentarily, entering into "otherness," the liminal, the sacred. Liturgists have an inkling of what this small moment is all about. Inthis short theological reflection on some of the themes raised in our 2009 Societas Liturgica Congress, I would like to focus on the liturgical experience of this temporal fragment, a somewhat uncontrollable, liminal difficult-to-name period of time which is also a "space-between," where meaning-making is possible. |
