Abstract | Attempts to prove the existence of God must contend with dominant cultural paradigms of what constitutes ‘proof.’ This article explores mathematical and scientific paradigms of proof, to argue for a separate metaphysical paradigm which is both related to and distinct from the scientific paradigm. Just as mathematics and science require certain orientations and skills, so too does a metaphysical approach, one based on what Lonergan calls ‘intellectual conversion.’ |
