Abstract | [Extract] The patient, now 9 years of age, was born at 24 weeks gestation. She required artificial ventilation for severe hyaline membrane disease. Her clinical course was complicated by intraventricular haemorrhage, and chronic lung disease. At discharge from the neonatal unit, she was oxygen-dependent and her parents were advised that it was likely that her development would be delayed, and that her life expectancy was ‘guarded’ and she was unlikely to live beyond 3 years. |
