Abstract

Dei Verbum was promulgated on 18 November 1965, nineteen days before the last working day of the second Vatican Council, 7 December. It was one of twelve documents, the fourth and last session of Vatican II. Forty years on, the methods of biblical studies have developed beyond the historical-critical approach promoted in the document.
