Abstract

This paper will explore the use of postmodern picture books to address the aims of English in the Australian Curriculum. It examines a project carried out in a Brisbane primary school with students from Years 3 and 5. The study found that postmodern picture books, by their very nature and the devices they contain, offer students a portal into the complexity of reading and viewing in the three strands of language, literature and literacy in the Australian Curriculum: English.
