Turner, Carmel. (2014). Opening the portal: An exploration of the use of postmodern picture books to develop critical literacy and contribute to learning in the Australian Curriculum: English. Literacy Learning: The Middle Years. 22(1), pp. 52 - 61.
This paper will explore the use of postmodern picture books to address the aims of English in the Australian Curriculum. It examines a project carried out in a Brisbane primary school with students from Years 3 and 5. The study found that postmodern picture books, by their very nature and the devices they contain, offer students a portal into the complexity of reading and viewing in the three strands of language, literature and literacy in the Australian Curriculum: English.
