Abstract | This paper considers the purposive approach and extrinsic material in statutory interpretation. It compares developments in Australia and Malaysia as well as in the United Kingdom. It argues that statutory reforms to the Malaysian Interpretation Acts 1948 and 1967 will further enhance the admission of extrinsic material to aid statutory interpretation in Malaysia. |
