Abstract

[Extrato] Este capítulo considera as principais revoltas contra impérios e monarquias europeias que eclodiram ao redor do mundo de 1760 a 1834, a “Era das Revoluções”. Organizado cronologicamente, este texto começa com a discussão das rebeliões multicêntricas anticoloniais que eclodiram nas treze colônias norte-americanas da Grã-Bretanha, no vice-reinado espanhol do Peru e no império global de Portugal nas décadas de 1760 a 1780. Em seguida, serão examinadas a Revolução Francesa, que eclodiu em Paris em 1789, e a revolução dos escravos, deflagrada na colônia francesa produtora de açúcar conhecida como São Domingos em 1791. Por último, este capítulo investiga como a invasão da Península Ibérica por Napoleão, em 1808, desencadeou a dissolução do império da Espanha na América e a consolidação do regime monárquico no mundo luso.
