Abstract | This essay explores emotional and social challenges for children and young people growing up within Francophone Calvinist communities, who were members of minority groups in flux across the Channel, between France, Flanders and England, during the later-sixteenth century. It argues that the performance of feelings between parents and children, and experiences of childhood and youth were not only made and interpreted within a community of shared faith but were also an important part of the maintenance of this dispersed community. |
