Abstract | This chapter focuses on providing a brief overview of using saliva for the discovery of potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In contrast to blood and cerebrospinal fluid, the collection of saliva is a noninvasive procedure, which is an important factor considering that elderly populations are mainly affected. With an increasing aging population worldwide, the development of reliable biomarkers for AD in saliva seems timely and topical. For a long time, underappreciated saliva now represents a powerful source of information, which is at the center of recent research. |
