Abstract

• Family violence refers to all forms of physical violence, psychological or emotional abuse, and neglect occurring within a family.
• Family violence is complex and there is no single factor which leads to the occurrence of violence.
• Paramedics are frequently called to attend the victims of violence, and the management may extend to more than physical injuries.
• Paramedics will need to be able to recognise the signs of violence first, and then connect patients with referral services.
