Abstract

[Extract] Occupational therapists work with people and communities to enable people’s performance and participation in the occupations they want, need or have to do in their life (World Federation of Occupational Therapists [WFOT], 2012). Occupational therapists develop an understanding of people’s life situations, experiences and priorities, and analyse the interaction between people and their environments. Consequently, occupational performance and participation may be enabled by acting on and facilitating change at the level of the person, the environment or the occupation (Turpin & Iwama, 2011). The context within which occupational therapy services are provided has a substantial impact on the extent, emphasis and even availability of occupational therapy.
