Abstract

The chapter focuses on issues of fairness and effectiveness for a teaching performance assessment (TPA) used for degree completion and credentialing for future teachers and for accreditation of initial teacher education (ITE) programs. This chapter describes the educational, technical, and social science issues associated with TPAs. It draws upon considerations that have been raised in the U.S. environment in social science as well as through technical standards for the assessment of professional practice.
