Abstract

[Extract] This paper reports on the second stage of a study conducted in regional Victoria, Australia. The study utilised mixed methods to explore in detail women’s access to bonding and bridging social capital and the consequences of this. The first stage drew on findings from a large quantitative study, comprising over 1,400 respondents. Data from the second stage draws on qualitative methods to explore fully women’s social capital. As there are few qualitative studies that do this, particularly in a rural context, these data will be examined in this paper. It is the intent here to further our understandings of gender and social capital, aided by this qualitative examination.
