Abstract | The year 1888 was an eventful year. It was the year Jack the Ripper prowled the streets of London; the newly formed Celtic football club won its first match against Rangers (5-2); Kaiser Wilhelm II was crowned Emperor in Germany; Vincent Van Gogh cut off part of his ear. It was also a year in which the Queen’s Bench unanimously held that a private letter was capable of breaching the Queen’s Peace. |
