Abstract	This chapter describes the impact of overweight and obesity on chronic disease and disability. The definitions of overweight and obesity and prevalence are described, as well as how these are measured and assessed in research compared with practice. This chapter begins with prevalence and the determinants of obesity, followed by complications and associated chronic conditions, and finally describes weight-management approaches and strategies.
