Abstract | Women have been agents and recipients of missionary activity since the beginning of Christianity. Oftentimes, their experience has been theorized from the perspective of “living in two worlds” or from the perspective of victimhood and/or agency. This chapter explores the experiences of women in mission and how these have been described, analyzed, and theorized from the perspective of gender, both in the past and today. It then critically discusses gender as an analytical category as it is used by feminist missiologists. The author proposes this gendered approach to mission history and practice is a feminist theological contribution to missiology that remains unfinished. |
