Abstract
The tenth meeting of the International Organization for Qumran Studies took place in conjunction with the 23rd congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament in Aberdeen, Scotland, between 5–8 August, 2019. For this meeting the ioqs board invited papers on the theme “The Dead Sea Scrolls in the Context of Hellenistic Judea,” alongside papers dealing with other aspects of Scrolls scholarship. Thirty-five papers were presented in Aberdeen, many of which were on a wide range of topics other than the selected theme. The conference program included one opening paper, in which Guy Stiebel addressed depictions of weaponry in the M tradition, arguing that these reflect realia of Hellenistic rather than Roman times. Several of the papers read in Aberdeen have in the meantime been published elsewhere or are part of the ongoing research contributions of longer-term projects. This volume brings together a sample of eight yet unpublished presentations relating to the overarching theme of the meeting, which have been peer-reviewed and revised after the Aberdeen meeting. The editors thank Matthew Hama and Shelby Bennett for their expert editorial assistance in preparing this volume for publication.
