Abstract
This article is a re-examination of what is called the Tabernacle, Ark, or Chalice-stand in the Coptic Church. The article highlights views of modern Coptologists on the name of this instrument in the medieval sources such as the Scalae and in the Encyclopaedias, the different rites connected to it, and the artefacts.
