Abstract
The reasons why Cormac McCarthy's novel "The Road" can be classified as a 'critical dystopia' as opposed to 'anti-Utopian' are discussed. It warns readers against a post-catastrophic present characterized by neo-liberal capitalism and isolation from nature, and offers hope for a changed future unlike the present.
