Abstract
[Extract] This knotty section of the Gospel, while provoking endless exegetical comment, is not usually visited by theology, apart from, say, the reference to the Spirit (7:39), and the 'I am' sayings (8: 12, 28, 58). Nonetheless, for the Johannine experience of God, this section of the Gospel does have a special importance. This is found, not primarily on the level of doctrine, but more in the texture and movement of faith's experience of God.
