Abstract
[Extract] Extrapolating from the spatial to the temporal, I thus propose the crosstemporal as an analogue to the transnational, in that it enables the comparison of temporal formations across the kinds of historical boundaries that have become institutionalized within conventional forms of periodization. Obama is a postmodernist president, just as surely as Tarantino is a postmodernist filmmaker, but the challenge for any student of this era is to read the narratives projected by these figures not so much literally but intertextually, in relation to the conflicting historical pressures that they mediate and the assumptions of progressive sequence that they systematically reorient.
