Abstract
[Extract] In this chapter, we expand upon the presentation of invariance across groups and time, introducing new and evolving design issues and strategies for evaluating these data.
We briefly introduce the importance of invariance testing generally and its relevance in sports and exercise science. In particular, we focus on the use of the cohortsequence design (also called accelerated longitudinal design; Bell, 1953; Mehta & West, 2000; Nesselroade & Baltes, 1979) to evaluate longitudinal invariance over time and multigroup invariance over samples. Then we briefly review substantive issues that underpin the demonstrations in this chapter. Finally, we demonstrate evolving statistical approaches to the evaluation of cohort‐sequence designs.
