Abstract
The author discusses the role of emotions in historical research. She mentions the account of the shipwreck of a Dutch East India Company vessel in Korea by bookkeeper Hendrik Hamel, the incorporation of emotions in Hamel's report and other documents, and the role of gender in the perception of Korea.
