Abstract
[Extract] In this chapter, the authors present a research study grounded in critical realist and postmodern intersectional feminist theory. By using these theories, we have deeply listened to, and acknowledged the importance of, nurses’ experiences in their care of children. The overall aim is to argue for social justice for children following exposure to domestic violence and acknowledge their integral human rights. This study represents emancipatory nursing as it explicitly identifi es and shares nurses’ challenges in assessing children exposed to risk of abuse who are in need of protection. Consistent with emancipatory nursing we propose an action care model to guide change and improve practice. The model identifi ed from the research is a praxis example, linking theory to practice.
