Abstract
[Extract] In this chapter we want to explore some issues that arose in the context of cross-cultural, and cross-disciplinary research and highlight some of the inevitable tensions that arose. We argue that the rigorous ethics clearance process which is mandatory in Australian Universities in the context of human research would have avoided the issues encountered here. This raises the question of whether ethics clearance requirements should be extended beyond human and animal research. Firstly, we provide a brief background to the case.
