After his release Sidonius circulated epistles which detailed or reflected on his incarceration, and so showed himself prepared to criticise the very king who had exiled him. It concludes by comparing Sidonius’ fashioning of his persona as an exile to the narrative strategies that Athanasius of Alexandria used in his account of his exile experience.Sidonius Apollinaris and the making of an exile personaBook chapterControlledPUB0201063035
