Abstract
[Extract] The European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Association (ESC-HFA) Study Group on Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) was formed in 2009, with the support of the HFA President at that time, Prof. John McMurray, and the chairs, Prof. Karen Sliwa and Prof. Burkert Pieske. In 2014 Prof. Pieske stepped down and Prof. Johann Bauersachs took his position. A first position paper published in 2010 highlighted the poor global awareness and understanding for this condition,1 with limited data available, such as clinical presentation across different regions, global morbidity and mortality rates (including hospitalisations, cardiovascular events and thromboembolic events) and neonatal outcomes. Therefore, the HFA PPCM Study Group decided to conduct a prospective, global, observational registry to investigate PPCM around the world.
