Abstract
Dina Afrianty focuses on the roles played by persons with disabilities and their disabled peoples’ organisations (DPOs) in ongoing monitoring of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD 2006) at national and provincial governmental levels in Indonesia. She considers the history of perspectives to disability within the cultural contexts of Indonesia and how these impact on the CRPD. The chapter describes how DPOs have been collaborating with other human rights organisations in Indonesia to support the implementation and monitoring of the CRPD. Afrianty’s chapter illustrates how ratification of the CRPD has provided DPOs with support to develop campaigns designed to change attitudes and new legislative frameworks in Indonesia in relation to persons with disabilities.
