Abstract
The impact of financial crises upon competitiveness in an interdependent world sometimes causes realignments in the list of competitive nations. Other problems for competitiveness arise out of a plethora of definitions of the nature of competitiveness itself. Justice can become uncertain or ambiguous when competitive activities occur in a global marketplace. Creative and compassionate policymaking is advocated as an alternative to those policies that are claimed to have caused financial crises. Competitiveness is not limited to economic activities but may extend to the marketplace of ideological beliefs and religious activity. Sometimes people suffer martyrdom at the hands of forces from an opposing ideology.
