Abstract
[Extract] If you are like most nursing students, you have chosen to study nursing because you are attracted to the practice-based nature of the profession. You will have undertaken multiple clinical placements and have no doubt found them to be the most challenging and enjoyable part of your studies. Because the nursing program you are studying has been approved by your country’s accrediting authority, you can have confidence that the knowledge and skills you have been acquiring are those that enable you to transition to practising safely as a registered nurse. On achieving registration, health services will be expecting you to commence your graduate year with the required degree of clinical readiness. This chapter focuses on what it means to be clinically ready for nursing practice, and discusses the capabilities that ensure that you are ready to function safely in the clinical environment.
