Abstract
[Extract] Against this background, it has become necessary to devise strategies for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis so that interventions can be directed to those most at need, and unnecessary interventions avoided. The most appropriate threshold of risk at which intervention should be considered, and how this is derived, has been the subject of some debate, and is briefly reviewed in this chapter.
