Becoming Third World Women Educators

This chapter is an invitation to think about education as part of a progressive social movement, as we, third world women educators, participate in a struggle towards the realisation of democratic values. I present the findings of a study in which I investigated the stories of five women teachers, including my own, who come from so-called ‘third world’ countries. These teachers have critically challenged the dominant educational discourses as they exercised responsibility and responsiveness to human needs.
