Abstract

[Extract] This essay offers remarks on some frequently overlooked methodological problems in the archaeological-historical study of early Iron Age polities on either side of the Jordan River. Here I limit my remarks to those Semitic-speaking polities for which we have the most evidence that can be related to this period: Israel, Ammon, Moab, and Edom.
