Abstract | This chapter explores the rationale for using online modes of learner support in distance education, within the student-centered framework of the student lifecycle and the ‘dialogues’ (Laurillard, 2002) or ‘interactions’ (Moore & Kearsley, 1996) critical to learning in higher education. At each point in the student journey, institutions have a range of support services they can employ to increase retention and achievement. |
