Abstract | [Extract] This is what I will examine in this chapter. I will take as starting point the concerns raised by the Vatican’s Dominus Iesus to religious pluralism and examines how Schillebeeckx as well as other contemporary theologians have themselves responded. Specifically, I will focus on theologians from Asia and also the Asian pastoral magisterium as the situation is by no means new to Christians in Asia. Besides, as will be seen later, Dominus Iesus seems to have been particularly concerned about the theologies of religious pluralism arising from Asia, the cradle of all the major religions of the world with whom Christianity has been living as neighbor for many centuries. |
