Abstract

[English] Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is an internationally acclaimed framework that describes the most important teacher competencies for effectively using digital technologies for educational purposes. In recent years, TPACK has been mainly understood as a framework for teaching with technology, not teaching about technology. The article shows that TPACK can also serve as a model for teacher expertise with regard to media education and digital literacy education. Almost all existing perspectives on competence facets for media and digital literacy education can be integrated into the TPACK model. In other words, TPACK presents a framework encompassing competence models for interdisciplinary media and digital literacy education, for media and digital literacy education embedded in teaching and learning culture for media and digital literacy education as a subject in its own right, or contextually situated media and digital literacy education.
