Abstract | This chapter provides an overview of the development and status of teacher education, and education more broadly, in the Pacific small state of the Solomon Islands. Being a country of relatively new independence and diverse geography, the Solomon Islands face significant challenges in meeting many fundamental human rights, with access to education being one of them. In this chapter we provide some insight into many of these challenges and also describe some of the importance initiatives and growth that the Solomon Islands’ government and peoples have managed to achieve in the face of widespread adversity. The information is presented under three broad headings: Contextual Background, Education System, and Teacher Education. |
